Peter [said] to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call."
Acts 2:38-39

What is RCIA?
“It includes several stages marked by study, prayer and rites at Mass. Participants in the RCIA are known as catechumens. They undergo a process of conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church, and receive the sacraments …”
Catechism of the Catholic Church

RCIA Steps include:

  • Inquiry Stage
  • Rite of Acceptance
  • Catechumenate Period
  • Period of Purification and Enlightenment
  • Celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation at Easter Vigil

Renewal of Baptismal Promises (excerpt):

Do you reject Satan? ...... I do

And all his works? ...... I do

And his empty promises?..... I do

Do you believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth?..... I do…

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.

John 3:16

Adults becoming Catholic

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) welcomes and initiates those who choose to become Catholic by providing Catholic Christian formation.

Who is RCIA for?

  • Adults who have never been baptized as a Christian
  • Those who have been baptized in another Christian faith, but now want to become Catholic*
  • People who have been baptized as Catholics but never received, and now want, the sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist.
*(The Catholic Church does not recognize all Christian baptism, there are some exceptions.)

What Happens?

There are several steps in this process that can last from one to three years depending on the readiness of each individual.  We meet for classes on Sunday mornings from 9:30 AM to 12 noon from August to May.  We will have Holidays and Christmas Break.

We will also take two retreats - one before Lent and another before receiving your sacraments at Easter Vigil.

To get started, call Rebecca Soto by calling the Parish Office 714-826-0760 or  rsoto@sticypress.org.

Baptism of Infants

Children up to six years old are baptized under the condition that parents promise to raise the child in the Catholic faith as a Christian.

How to Help

Helping candidates during the RCIA process is a great way to get involved in the Parish.  We can use your help in the following ways:

  • Become a sponsor - be a companion of faith for a candidate
  • Be part of the RCIA team willing to share your faith and attend worship, Catholic Update and Basic Catechist certification programs.

To volunteer, contact Rebecca Soto 714-826-0760 or rsoto@sticypress.org .
